Cactus Plants
Cactus plants are spiny plants of many shapes, colors, and height. Indoor cactus plants require little maintenance. Cactus plants can be shade-loving or sun-loving. They can have flowers or thorns. They are easy to grow, and grow best in a hot, dry environment.
There are almost 2,000 distinctive species of cactus plants. Cactus plants may be purchased as seeds or as mature plants. Aloe cactus plants are known for their healing ability. Christmas cactuses are popular during the holidays. Cactus plants can be grown indoors or outdoors, as long as the right conditions are met.
Over-watering is probably the biggest mistake people make when it comes to caring for a cactus plant. When watering cactus plants, only water them until there is approximately a half inch of dry soil on the surface. Make sure there are holes for the water to drain to avoid rotting of the roots. Cactus plants require more water during the summer.
When purchasing a cactus plant, buy one that is healthy. Cactus plants need plenty of direct sunlight, preferably southern sun. They grow actively during the summer, and become dormant in the winter. Fertilize regularly through spring and summer, but not during dormant seasons.
